Singapore poised to add F-15 Eagle to fleet
On Septermber 7, 2005, the Today Newpaper reported that Singapore is 'in the process of seeking final clarifications and contract negotiations with Boeing' on the purchase of the F-15 Eagle.
This aircraft was eventually chosen over the Eurofighter Typhoon and the French-built Rafale.
The paper also mentioned that this 'new fighter' will replace a squadron of aging A4SU Super Skyhawks.
Important Dates
So, Singapore is replacing a 40 years old plane with 'brand new' 30 years old plane after throwing out the idea of getting two other possible planes that are less than 5 years old.
I guess after buying the leftover A4s from the Korean War, it is indeed a good idea to follow tradition and buy the leftover F-15s from the Vietnam War.
Well, somebody in the procurement department must really have bees in the bonnet.
